R.L.W. Grand prix 2007 Qualifying & Preview
I was delighted to finish top of my group
and therefore qualify for the final stages
of the Grand Prix in Aberdeen on 13-21 October.
I won six of my seven matches to finish ahead of my friend Mick Judge on frame difference.
It is a format I like as I also won six of seven last year to qualify
and went on to finish third on frame difference in stage 2 at Aberdeen in 2006..
In my first match I beat Mick 4-1.
I played very well starting with a century and finishing with a 74 break.
In my next match I played great beating David Roe 4-0.
Again I started with a century (132) and also had breaks of 56, 66, and 74 to win.
My third match was against Drew Henry from Scotland,
a tough match player and he beat me 4-2.
The next day I beat Matt Selt 4-2
and then came back from 0-2 to beat Joe Jogia 4-3
after one of the best matches of my career.
Both of us played excellent snooker, especially great safety,
and I managed to win the decider on the blue ball.
I started the final day top of the group but
knew there was still work to do in order to qualify.
I beat another friend from Ireland, Rodney Goggins, 4-1
and then required just 2 frames against Kevin Van Hove
in my last match to guarantee qualification and won 4-1 to top the group.
I am really looking forward to the final stages in Aberdeen
although I have a tough group.
I am playing well and feeling confident.
My schedule for the group is
Oct. 15 11.30 v Marcus Cambell
Oct. 15 3.30 v Anthony Hamilton
Oct. 16 3.30 v Michael Holt
Oct. 17 11.30 v Ali Carter
Oct. 17 3.30 v Graeme Dott
I have currently made 89 centuries in my career
and I would love to break the 100 barrier this season
